SI FAQ
what is structural integration?
Structural Integration (SI) is a form of hands-on bodywork developed by Dr. Ida P. Rolf in the mid 20th century to restore the body’s optimal structure through reorganizing the connective tissues. These tissues, also known as fascia, surround, penetrate, and support all of the muscles, bones, nerves, and organs. When fascia tightens due to injury, stress, or poor posture, it restricts movement and causes pain. SI works on this three dimensional web-like complex of connective tissues to release, realign, and balance the whole body. The genius of the work rests on Dr. Rolf's insight that the body is more comfortable and functions most efficiently when its structure is balanced in gravity.
what are the benefits of si?
Improved Posture: SI corrects postural imbalances, and offers you an easier and more natural upright stance.
Reduced Pain: Relief from achy joints, and chronic back and neck discomfort.
Increased Flexibility: By balancing the tensions in your fascia, SI increases your range of motion.
Enhanced Body Awareness: SI helps you prevent injury by being more in tune with the way you use your body.
What is “the ten series”?
The Sl process is a series of ten sessions, each building on the last, to systematically address the whole body. Sessions are typically spaced 1-3 weeks apart. The series provides comprehensive, lasting change rather than spot treatments. Many clients complete the full series for optimal results, but you can try individual sessions or an introductory series of three first.
After finishing the ten series, clients are traditionally asked to not book another session for at least six to twelve months to allow the work to fully integrate into your body.
HOW LONG are sessions, and what’s the time frame for the ten series?
Depending on the work needed, sessions can range from 60-75 minutes. First time clients, please plan on an additional 15 minutes in order to review intake paperwork at the beginning of the session.
The ten series is most effective booking a session once a week (for ten weeks) or bi weekly (over the span of 20 weeks) so we can build upon the previous session without regressing into previous habitual patterns.
What do i wear?
Comfortable clothing that allows access to the body is best - typically underwear, athletic shorts, bra/sports top, or swimwear (for women). Sessions involve movement education and bodywork in various positions (lying, sitting, standing).
how much are sessions and where are you located?
Sessions are $200.
